Coca-Cola is Back in the Big Leagues

Opening Day in MLB yeahhhh!!

Just in time for Opening Day, Coca-Cola has taken over as the official soft drink of Major League Baseball. They snagged the spot from PepsiCo, who has been the sponsor since 1997 (ouch). Coke has been posting subtle hints all across their social channels, and retweeting from the official MLB page.

Now with Coke being a main league sponsor, they get insight into MLB's digital and social channels. They can collaborate with the brand to really hit it out of the park.  Although Pepsi is no longer a sponsor of the league, they are still team sponsors of 11 teams, while Coke sponsors 18. It's will be interesting to compare the soda brands, Coke being the new brand for the whole league and Pepsi being the long term old sponsor.

Coke is all over the sports industry recently.

Yesterday was the NCAA Championship and UNC Chapel Hill took home the trophy! Woohooo! After the final buzzer, Coca-Cola handed out personalized UNC cans to Tar Heels fans as they left the stadium.

Coca-Cola is really on top of their marketing!

  1. This is awesome -- go Coke! I think they've done a great job appealing to their target audience, who uses social media regularly. They've also done a great job of using celebrities and marketing to all cultures. Well done!
